Saving money comes down to the SIPs…
The time of year has arrived when temperatures dip, we reach for the woolly scarves, and the usual ‘discussions’ start about how high to turn up the thermostat.
It’s therefore obvious that insulation is key to protecting your home from high energy bills, since air leakage is the premier reason for heat loss in most houses tested. And a fail-safe way of keeping insulated with a self-build oak frame? SIPs panels.
At English Oak Buildings, we incorporate Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) into every green oak frame we build. We have been producing our own custom made SIPS for almost fifteen years – longer than any other oak frame manufacturer in the UK. The SIPs panels are fixed around the outside of our timber frames and control the flow of heat, air and sound. This encapsulation makes for a home that has minimal ‘cold bridging’ providing outstanding protection from the cold in winter and maintaining a cool house in the summer.
People may be under the misconception that SIPS can only be used in very simple, prefabricated designs, when in reality they are flexible and can be tailored to the needs of any building. We ensure that your home is fully insulated with our custom SIPS, meaning you saves money on energy bills in the long run.
We are also keen to point out that our SIPS have exceptionally low U-Values – to find out what that means, read our blog here.
SIPS also help speed up construction, meaning your home can be made water-tight and finished more quickly, therefore having added cost-effective benefits. And they will last the life span of your building, so you know that as long as you have a timber frame, you have fabulous insulation. And hopefully that thermostat won’t be turned up quite so high this winter…
