If you’re a city dweller but have always dreamed of having a home in the countryside then we have the answer – a bespoke oak holiday cottage. This idea is perfect for those that haven’t quite seen the building that catches their eye, but have a firm idea of what they might like in a country retreat.

Finding a plot of land might indeed be the preferable option than locating your ideal farmhouse or converted barn. With this approach it’s easier to plan out your grounds – where you want to make the most of certain views, or catch a sunset. We can suggest our own architect or work with one of your choice to get the best results for you. What’s more, if you are only staying in your holiday residence for a portion of each year then it can be an investment opportunity to rent out to others who are seeking a rural retreat.

This was the case with Hyde Barn, a project where we created a gorgeous oak framed cottage in rural Hampshire. Build neat existing, older farm buildings, we covered it with oak feather-edge cladding that could silver off naturally. The owners were keen to make the most of the space by incorporating glazing and roof lights that allow daylight to flood into the dwelling without taking away the barn type feel of the build.
