Sometimes we’re called upon to create something beyond our usual remit – that is, not your average garage, extension or oak frame (although since all our builds are bespoke then you could hardly call them average!)
Still, we knew it would be a huge and exciting project when we embarked on building Buttermere Stables – a very large stable building made from home grown Green Oak and Douglas Fir. The main frame is a true superstructure, with a footprint of a giant 743 square meters – the largest frame we’ve ever built in terms of area!
Included in the structure are two huge timber and plywood Ladder Beam Trusses that have a clear span of ten meters, and four large timber and stainless steel flitch beams supporting a further octagonal flitch beam that forms the under carriage of a decorative central lantern.
Seventy main posts were built to sit perfectly onto high concrete piers with steel work tying the two elements together.
More photos of the project coming soon!
